It’s the sweet spot where art and science meet: part training,
part experience, part intuition, and part creativity. My
hands-on style is an intense blend of power, technique,
sensitivity and focus.

My journey to well-being began (as many people’s do) with a series of professional and emotional traumatic experiences that caused my body and mind to shut down and work against me.

Fitness Competitions and my love for yoga and competitive sports were the first steps in the right direction for me. They were the doorway to a new lifestyle leading me to learn more about the human body and the healing process.

This became my passion. Before long I had qualified as a Yoga teacher, Tension & Trauma Release (TRE) Facilitator and a registered Sports Massage Therapist. Apparently I don’t do things in half measures…

Helping others create a happier, healthier and overall more successful way of life for themselves is a dream come true. One I am lucky enough to live each day.

A deep tissue massage is a type of massage that focuses on deeper layers of
muscle and connective tissues. It is used to help realign tissues back into normal
form. A deep tissue massage is used to help relief pain and stiffness and remove
trigger points. Deep tissue massage techniques are applied with deep pressure and
at a slow rate to areas of tension and pain in order to reach deep muscles and
fascia. Deep tissue massage works by physically breaking down hard areas of rigid
tissue called adhesion and relieve pain. A deep tissue massage uses massage oils
to relax muscles and then work into deeper musculature. (Dry/Fire Cupping included
if needed)

Please take note, that after a deep Tissue treatment the following could occur and
should resolve after 48 hours
1. Mild bruising
2. Muscler pain
3. Headaches
4. Fatigue

Gentle massage is a lighter type of massage therapy than deep tissue massage.
Gentle massage does not cause any discomfort while applying massage on the
body. Gentle massage therapy is done by gliding and long strokes towards the
direction of blood flow to the heart. Gentle massage is helpful to increase oxygen
level in the blood, improve blood circulation, flexibility of muscles, and decrease
muscle toxins. This kind of massage includes rhythmic motion than deep tissue
massage, but unlike deep tissue massage, gentle massage is performed on the top
muscle layers. When this massage is performed, you’ll feel more relaxed and
energized. It improves the blood circulation in the body.
The massage helps in the stimulation of body, which in turn produce endorphins.
Endorphins are also known as happy hormones, which promotes relaxation. Gentle
massage is suitable when you’re stressed, suffering from blood circulation problems
and tired.

Wet Cupping is a therapy used to remove harmful toxins from your body in order to
improve the blood circulation. The treatment involves a negative pressure or suction
being applied by a cup in order to create a vacuum to draw the toxins to the surface
of the skin, then applying small, superficial scratches i.e. making small incisions to
excrete the toxins out of the body. Hijama cupping therapy removes blood and tissue
fluids mixed with potentially harmful substances. Therapeutic benefits of Hijama
cupping is not related to the amount of blood drawn out but to the number of
excreted toxins.

(Depending on time and what symptom is being treated in the session this treatment
usually includes a short massage.)

Clients must have a personal cupping kit when doing wet cupping for hygiene
purposes. You can purchase this from MR Body Therapy or bring your own kit with
you.

Massage cupping, is a non-invasive, safe, deep tissue, detoxifying lymphatic
drainage massage that is effective and easy to action. The massage cups work with
negative pressure to drain excess fluids and toxins, loosen adhesions, lift connective
tissue, and bring optimal blood flow to stagnant muscles and skin. The deep tissue massage is not only extremely detoxifying but also incredibly versatile in that you can treat from the most superficial skin layer to the deepest tissue. The suction caused by the massage cups reaches deep into soft tissue and organs to pull any toxins and inflammation in the body to the surface where the lymphatic system efficiently eliminates them. The effects of Cupping massage can be classified into two categories. One, the general purification of blood, betterment of the nervous system, and the improvement of circulatory functions for health and beauty radiance. Two, the localised removal of pain and the relaxation of stiff muscles in specific areas of concern. (we offer a 30min treatment for clients that want to do weekly treatment’s on problem areas to assist with cellulite reduction)

We have also included two amazing products which we use in the treatment:

1.CIRCUFLOW to improve vitality, skin radiance, hormone balance, and vascular
health

2.CELLULITE BE GONE to detoxify the body and fight the appearance of cellulite

TRE (Tension & Trauma Release Exercise)

TRE is an innovative series of exercises that assist the body in releasing deep
muscular patterns of stress, tension and trauma. The exercises safely activate a
natural reflex mechanism of shaking or vibrating that releases muscular tension,
calming down the nervous system.

When starting TRE, it is recommended that you do the four session program which
consists of one session a week. Once you have completed the four session program
you can chat to Michelle (the facilitator) to see if you would need or want any
additional sessions.

Kindly book all four sessions, ideally one week apart.

All appointments can be booked via WhatsApp on 082 318 4251

*Your first treatment includes a 20 minute consultation.  Please allow for the additional time.

Sports Massage is a form of massage typically used before, during, and after athletic events. I completed my Sports Massage course through HFPA and have since then learnt my own style of massage combing Sports Massage and Deep Tissue Massage in a way that can really benefit chronic pain sufferers. Massage is used to improve chronic muscular tension using slow strokes, direct compression, trigger point release techniques or friction on a focused problem area. Often the movements are directed across the grain of the muscles (cross-fibre) using the fingers, thumbs, or elbows. This is applied with greater pressure and at deeper layers of the muscle than Swedish Massage, hence the name Sports Massage and Deep Tissue Massage. However, it is not just sports people who can reap the benefits of this advanced massage style. If you work in an office, sitting at a desk day after day, or if your work or lifestyle involves you doing many repetitive movements causing Repetitive Strain Injuries  (RSI), then you may also suffer deep tissue injuries.

BENEFITS

Many benefits from sports massage have been reported based on experience and observation. Some are beneficial to the mind (psychological) and some to the body (physiological).

  • Increased joint range of motion (ROM)
  • Increased flexibility
  • Increased sense of well-being
  • Decreased muscle tension
  • Decreased neurological excitability (nerves more relaxed)
  • Decreased muscle spasms
  • Better sleep
  • Increased blood flow
  • Increased elimination of exercise waste products (lactic acid)
  • Decreased chance of injury
  • Decreased recovery time between workouts

Tension & Trauma Releasing Exercises (TRE) is an innovative series of exercises that assist the body in releasing deep muscular patterns of stress, tension and trauma. The exercises safely activate a natural reflex mechanism of shaking or vibrating that releases muscular tension, calming down the nervous system. When this muscular shaking/vibrating mechanism is activated in a safe and controlled environment, the body is encouraged to return back to a state of balance. TRE is based on the fundamental idea, backed by research, that stress, tension and trauma is both psychological and physical. TRE’s reflexive muscle vibrations generally feel pleasant and soothing. After repeated  TRE sessions, many people report feelings of peace and wellbeing. TRE has helped many thousands of people globally.

TRE is designed to be a self-help tool that, once learned, can be used independently as needed throughout one’s life, thereby continuously supporting and promoting personal health and wellness.

The practice of Cupping as an alternative medicine dates back as early as ancient Egyptian, Chinese, and Middle Eastern cultures. The use of cups allows for the stretching and opening of muscle tissue. This lifting creates space to drain toxins from the cells and remove waste through the lymphatic system. Over the years, toxins from the environment, processed foods, and chemical additives, accumulate in our blood, tissues, and muscles. Cupping helps to drain excess fluid, loosen adhesions, and encourage blood flow to stagnant tissues to discharge waste.

Dry cupping

Suction is created on precise points on the clients body producing a vacuum effect that alleviates tension in the area and relaxes muscles. This treatment is done with a manual pump and plastic cups.

Slide Cupping/Massage Cupping

Oil is first applied to the area being treated followed by placement and suction of the cups. The therapist will then gently glide the cup/s along the affected area which is a technique that provides great pain relief and myofascial release, similar to a deep-tissue massage.

Benefits of cupping therapy

  • Removal of lactic acids and toxins from the muscles.
  • Speeds up healing time
  • Promotes blood flow and oxygen
  • Improves scar-tissue health
  • Treats muscle tension, pain and inflammation
  • Stimulation of the digestive system
  • Increased circulation elimination of stagnant blood

Wet Cupping / Hijama

Hijama is a process of blood detoxification in which the skin is pricked and small amount of blood is extracted. The amount of blood that is extracted depends on the individual. Some people will let out more than others. However the threapist will never extract more blood than needed.

Hijama improves circulation and sluggish blood flow by extracting the older blood in your body, the body gets a chance to rejuvenate and push the body to make new blood cells. Also the blood removed is full of toxins from the body and the environment ( food additives, pollution etc)

The suction from the cups helps to pull all the muscles, skin, and blood into negative pressure which helps with muscle aches and pain.

Hijama is especially beneficial for:

  • Muscle Pain, aches & stiffness
  • Blood detoxification
  • High cholesterol
  • Immune support
  • Migraines & headaches
  • Digestion support
  • Mood support
  • Memory & concentration
  • Insomnia

Kinesiology tape is a thick adhesive tape that’s been around since the 1970s. It works in one of two ways:

1) By providing tactile feedback and stability

2) By physically lifting the skin to allow more blood and lymph flow in the underlying areas

These effects can ease pain, increase mobility and help you adopt better habits in terms of form and muscle activation.

Benefits:

  • Open your shoulders for better posture.
  • Relieve wrist aches.
  • Ease pregnancy pain and stretch marks.
  • Restore mobility where scars limit it.
  • Find and activate smaller, stabilizing muscles.
  • Lower back strains and sprains
  • Ankle sprains
  • Plantar fasciitis
  • Knee injuries
  • Chronic knee pain
  • Hamstring strains
  • Rotator cuff injuries
  • Chronic shoulder pain
  • Tennis elbow
  • Carpal tunnel syndrome

Vinyasa Yoga can be described as specific movement linked with breath. It’s a dynamic practice that’s often more playful than other styles and I love it for its ability to lift the heart rate and help students slip into a moving meditation that benefits the body and mind.

There’s science behind how the practice improves flexibility, protects your spine and builds muscle strength, but also how it regulates your adrenal glands, helps you sleep, boosts your immune system and increases your self-esteem, inner strength and gives peace of mind.

The term Vinyasa is derived from “Nyasa” meaning “to place” and “vi” meaning “in a special way.”

This freedom of movement resonates with students from all walks of life. Expect to leave your session  having had a full body workout but one that has worked to both strengthen and lengthen your muscles to create balance. And one that has given you the tools and the knowledge to have a safe and confident yoga journey.

Vinyasa yoga encourages self-reflection and mindfulness. Students learn to be aware of each movement, breath and sensation linked to every thought and feeling, to open up a window into who we really are and what we want in life.
